When connecting your computer to a new monitor, there is a good chance that you are going to want to change some display settings to get the configuration that is best for you. In this guide, we will review how to adjust your settings to get the most out of your monitor.
Step 1: Make sure your computer is connected to the monitor with the right cables
In most cases, a simple HDMI cable will be enough to connect your computer to your monitor, but on some older PCs and monitors, other cables may be required. After finding the right cords and adapters and making sure your monitor is plugged in and turned on, your computer should automatically display on the monitor screen.
Step 2: Access the display settings
Begin by going to the settings app. This can be done by pressing the Start button at the bottom of your screen and selecting the settings application or by typing “settings” into the search bar at the bottom of your screen.

On the page that pulls up, you will want to select “System” and “Display”

Step 3: Configure your desired settings
At this point, you should see a screen looking somewhat like the one below.

Typically, you are going to want to select “Extend these displays” to give yourself two screens to work from seamlessly. Then, you want to drag and rearrange the boxes labeled “1” and “2” to give yourself the ability to drag pages from screen to screen.
To find out which box represents which screen, you can select “Identify” and a number will appear on each screen to show you which is which.
Once you have dragged and reordered them to be in the configuration you want, select “Apply” to save your changes. You can then move your mouse from screen to screen to make sure that you did it right.
Step 4: Choose a monitor to be your main display
If you prefer one monitor to be your main display, you can make that your main display by selecting the box that represents that screen, selecting “Make this my main display” as shown in the pictures below, and then selecting “Apply” to save your changes.

Your monitor should now be set up to the way that you like it 😊
